For those of us that have children and love the outdoors there are very few things in life that are more enjoyable than introducing our kids to that passion. As a child growing up in the heart of pheasant country in South Dakota, some of my fondest memories are being in the field with my Dad. It is truly a “Father & Son Dream” for everyone to enjoy the outdoors and create these timeless memories with their children. I am certain that anyone who looks at this painting will be able to relate to their own childhood experiences, their past experiences with their own children or the future experiences that they dream of.
As a father of two boys, I have always envisioned sharing those same wonderful experiences with Brady & Hunter. I am certainly anticipating the days ahead where I can teach Brady about my love of hunting and the outdoors. Tragically I will never be able to do that with Hunter. Despite having Sturge Weber Syndrome and the difficulties that accompany it, we always expected Hunter to live a full and active life. Unfortunately a massive seizure took Hunter’s life on May 29, 2005 at the very young age of 5. This painting is the creation of a memory that never happened. Hunter as an older boy and I sharing a pheasant hunting trip together!
I am very grateful to my good friend Ray Kelly, the extremely talented artist who created this wonderful memory! Ray is a widely renowned wildlife artist whose work is seen world wide and has done work for many charitable causes. Ray and I became friends after meeting at a celebrity pheasant hunt in my home town of Aberdeen, South Dakota. Ray has donated several pieces to our foundation over the years. After Hunter passed away Ray & I talked about creating a painting of some kind that would become the official print of our annual Celebrity Hunt for a Cure. This wonderful piece of art is the result!
“A Father & Son Dream” is the commemorative and official print of Hunter’s Dream for a Cure. The proceeds raised from the sale of this print all go directly to the foundation. The foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Sturge Weber Syndrome and funding programs for special needs children. Thank you for your Support!
God Bless,
Robb Nelson
